The book that is not Jenn J!

Jenn J McLeod has been disappointing readers for years! So here she is, my friend and fellow nomadic novelist, to explain herself.

Hi Annie,
Thank you for allowing me use your blog to confess. You’re right, I have let my readers down with my last four books. So, with my 5th novel being about the secrets we keep and the lies we tell, it’s an opportunity to come clean.

For years my readers have been falling in love with the small towns in my stories. I know because I receives emails and messages requesting addresses, directions – even GPS coordinates – for Calingarry Crossing and Coolabah Creek. (And let’s not forget Watercolour Cove, which I based on your beautiful hometown.)

Regrettably, I’m constantly breaking the bad news that my settings are the result of an author’s imagination.

But change is in the air.

The fifth-generation cattle property in central QLD where I camped in a paddock in the shadow of ancient Mount Hedlow to write this story, does exist. Inspiring my fictional Iron Pot Hill Farm Retreat is Henderson Park – both a real holiday destination and a stunning wedding venue, offering the most picturesque settings for beautiful country-loving brides.

What this all means is that my readers can finally pack their bags and head to Henderson Park Retreat (between Rockhampton and Yeppoon) for a very real taste of the place my characters, Ava and John, fell in love (despite everything telling them they shouldn’t).

While I love all my stories, A Place to Remember takes readers to a magnificent part of Australia. Not only is the setting smack bang over the Tropic of Capricorn in central Queensland—where rocky volcanic peaks rise dramatically from otherwise flat grazing land—it’s where cattle country (and cowboys) meet the pristine coastline of the southern Great Barrier Reef. And that makes it a very special part of the world.

You can check out the vision board I used while writing and see the photos I took when I revisited Henderson Park Retreat earlier this year. www.jennjmcleod.com/hpk.

I’m going back soon. Maybe I’ll see you there!

Book Blurb
A portrait
An obsession
A curious daughter
An affair to remember
Running away for the second time in her life, twenty-seven-year-old Ava believes the cook’s job at a country B&B is perfect until she meets the owner’s son, John Tate. At twenty, the fifth-generation grazier is a beguiling blend of both man, boy and a terrible flirt. Ava’s first mistake is flirting back. Her second is enjoying a clandestine affair right under the noses of John’s formidable parents. Ava knows she’ll never forget the spring she met John Tate, while he’s unlikely to remember a fling with the hired help.
And as fate would have it, she was right.

Thirty years later, Ava returns to Candlebark Creek and so does her daughter, Nina, who is determined to meet her mother’s lost love for herself. While struggling to find her own place in the world, Nina discovers an urban myth about a love-struck man, a forgotten engagement ring, and a dinner reservation back in the eighties. Now she must decide if revealing the truth will hurt more than it heals.

Come home to the country, to Candlebark Creek, and to the Ivy-May Homestead—a fifth generation Queensland cattle station hiding three decades of secrets and lies.

Sounds like a wonderful place. I opened A Place To Remember last night but I didn't get far because no sooner had I looked through the dedication (to Miss Tess if you don't mind!!); than hubby asked me if I wanted to watch an episode of Fargo, and I caved, only because we are almost at The End!! I'll be reading it very soon, Jenn J, and I'm looking forward to it.

loved the story and the setting. Your photos are great and verify exactly how I pictured it after reading the story. A Place to Remember is a book I look forward to reading again as I was so eager to complete John and Ava's story I barrelled through the book. Next time I want to slow down and take in the scenery and the little things that make a good book great.
